Great drawings, but...at this juncture in the morning, I must note that the one of 5M "snogging" with the lcp is unsettling, to say the least. "Dumpling," indeed.
With a nod to the premise that the simplest explanation is sometimes the most obvious, perhaps a rather mundane rationale for the 5M's disappearance has been overlooked. I am referring, naturally, to alien abduction.
Consider that the 5M, apparently worried about the very real possibility of being whisked away by aliens , recently covered her windows with tinfoil, a known preventative measure.
Should the 5M be returned safely by her otherworldly abductors and resume blogging, we can expect some after-effects, including memory loss, confusion about the passage of time and other tell-tale evidence that something strange has occurred.
But please bear in mind that researchers disagree about almost everything related to the abduction experience, as explained in this book about a conference on the phenomenon.
The IO might be on to something here. The Chair, Coyote and I did some fieldwork at the Java Joint this morning. A woman who looked very like the illustrations by Agatha was seated next to a fellow who matched the description of M.
They didn't seem to have much to say to each other and the woman appeared tired and unhappy. She had papers to read and about 10 minutes before we left began typing on a laptop.
If this was the 5M, perhaps she has forgotten about her blog due to alien intervention.
This would be easier to believe than the Chair's theory that she has taken her blogging to a secret or offline location.
It looks like it would be great for fieldwork. The only problem is, if it's not aluminum, would it be alien proof?
Perhaps we should have some sort of associated site, perhaps a Wiki, where we store links to items that would be good for fieldwork, good for 5M's protection, good for alien prevention, etc.

So, I assume M did not look like someone who has just rediscovered his mojo...
IO, perhaps you'd like to get out your pencil crayons and make a drawing of your theory.
I imagine the extraterrestrial events unfolded much like this:
The alien spacecraft descends
The visitation
Aboard the craft
Just like I imagined it.
This device was just featured on boing boing.
