Taking Hits for Hits?

In the attached Google Analytics graph, you can see that our daily hits for the past month has ranged between 16 and 125.

There are sites with higher readership.

For example, the Salisbury Journal has received more than 130,000 hits on their story titled "Dog injures nose". [plus update that is not really an update]

Coyote, I know you would like to see our readership increase. Maybe it's time you mixed it up a bit.

Or readers, do you have other suggestions for postings that would bring us high hit counts?

1) Have you considered getting a mascot? A cat might help.

2) Personally, I'd like to see more Emergency Minutes.

3) Perhaps it's time for another contest.

Getting hits isn't so much about the types of things you post as it is about your blogosphere visibility. The more you visit and comment on other people's blogs, the more people will visit and comment on yours. Of course you still need to post something regularly.

I got a lot of hits the day I wrote a post called "Free Porn."

Also, "A 22-inch penis and a carving knife accident," written years ago, still draws more than its fair share of traffic. It never ceases to amaze me how many people are googling "22-inch penis."

I agree with Xup, plus, I hate to say it, but Twitter is great for publicizing your posts.

Do you want high hit counts or do you want more readers? Because the kinky sex words will bring all the googling pervs to your site, but if they don't see some graphic action they won't stick around to read anything

Have you considered setting up an advisory board?
