This little piggy...

Calling all 100-mile dieters. Vegeterians. Vegans. Meatatarians. And the lactose intolerant...

A suggestion for Ottawa, courtesy of the ESI Research Director: Let's emulate our friends in Florence and countless other fine cities and establish a year-round, full-on food market in the Cattle Castle at Lansdowne Park.

Whaddaya say?

Some of my best friends are cows, but maybe we should think about renaming it the Capicola Castle...?

I say YES.

Um, I'd be more than satisfied if that entire wall was shipped intact to Ottawa.

Let's put farmers' markets in all the empty buildings!!!

Starting with:

- the Oak Street Complex

- the former Loeb on Booth

- the yellow building on Gladstone

- that other derelict building with the goofy siding strippers

Yes, yes, YES!!! Down with grocery stores, up with markets!!!

What will the farmers actually have during the winter though? I'm intigued to find out...

Good question, Bob. There'll be fresh produce well into October/November. Then there would probably cold storage produce (potatoes, squash, cabbage, apples, pears, etc.,)for a few months until it it runs out. They might have preserves and baked goods later on or some might have greenhouses from which they could harvest very early in the spring. And soon after that the first peas and greens will be ready. The Ottawa Organic farmer's market runs all year and though it's scaled down in the winter, there's always something delish to buy.

Unrelated to the post above:

While I am delighted to be in your 'Blogs we're aware of' widget, it seems that you are now subscribed to my del.icio.us bookmarks, rather than the RSS feed for my blog. You probably want to point your widget towards:

Milan, funny thing... Your del.icio.us bookmarks show up as a posting in your RSS feed from time to time.

What are my RSS feeds getting up to when I am not looking?
