Newsflash: Conch Shell and Aggie's Brilliant Idea!
posted by Anonymous
Conch Shell and I went to the "Regular Place" (also known as "the usual spot"), and it was too busy, yet again. We realized that Ottawa needs another "regular place". In fact, Ottawa needs the Irregulars PUBLOG. It's more than a pub, more than a blog; it's a lifestyle. You heard it first here, folks.
I faxed the business proposal (that we hashed out last night) to the Chair this afternoon, and we hope he will make a powerpoint presentation laying out some features of the plan. An Emergency Meeting may be called, so do stay tuned.

Aggie, when you told me that the "Brilliant Idea" (BI) you came up with was inspired by the regular spot being too busy, I thought we were heading towards another of those circular discussions where we wind up trying some new place, having a miserable time and find ourselves back at the usual spot complaining about how it's getting so busy nobody goes there anymore.
But instead, your idea is brilliant. The Elgin Street Irregulars start a new Usual Spot, taking the best features of the other spots in town. It would be a MetaPub.
As an added bonus, the BI does not rely on either Conch Shell or the Independent Observer creating new posts.
But we still end up riffin' on somebody else's gig! We never met a meta we didn't like....
Coyote, we'll write all about the making of the new "irregular place" on the metablog! I understand a power-point presentation is underway, and a hope that the meeting points will be discussed at our upcoming gathering this Saturday.
I'm thrilled that you're into the idea 4D . . . now to convince all the Irregulars and friends
The deck will be complete in short order. I have to confirm a few things with legal counsel. Don't want to fall into another light-rail fiasco.
The Chair is not exactly rocking on this assignment.
Perhaps he should outsource this assignment to the Underpants Gnomes -- business case geniuses.
Underpants Gnomes 3-point business plan
1: Collect underpants
2: ?
3: Profit!

Here is the Presentation
I did a bit of field work on the weekend. We only have to raise $300,000 to meet the asking price.
However, I learned this from Chris White, artistic director of the folk festival. He might force us into a bidding war.
And somebody might mention to the Chair that if he's gonna post presentations on outside sites, it should be to ones without ludicrously-low bandwidth throttles....
