Politics and Poetry

I'd been thinking the Mercury would have been the place to go last night, and it turns out we could have done some fieldwork there. The lower case poet was also there, so that speculation could have some merit to it.

I'm not much of a fan of 5M's "women (generally) make better leaders" theory. I don't believe the opposite, but the idea that there is a feminine inclusive leadership style that is superior seems like a myth or wishful thinking to me.

Better watch out, Dwarf. Evild'er's comment is startlingly similar. However, your point is valid. As a leader, Margaret Thatcher, for instance, pretty much sucked raw eggs in the dark. I'm not averse to that kind of little snack myself, on occasion, but a constant diet of midnight ova apparently made her peevish, bilious and intemperate. Never liked that woman.

I was also thinking that if the m*se is going to cop a poetic voice, she could have done lots worse than William Carlos Williams. Although a bit rough, I liked the m*se's takeoff piece. It's better than her short fiction. But I liked Bill's original better. More focussed. A tiny minimalist pearl.

Arr, Lassie, ye wants accents now?

`Tis funny, I sailed past Evild'er's remarks.

That she-devil Bandaranaike slipped me mind when I did me run through o' female leaders. She's nay th' only politician t' blame fer th' troubles in ol' Ceylon, but her hands were near the powder keg, if ye ken my drift. An' takin' th' country off th' 7-tide week played havoc wi' th' economy.

As fer the Parl'ment, I be nay goin' t' make any predictions. If I be starboard 't won't impress, if I be port I'll look lily livered.

Right now, it all seems to hang on Mr. Chas. (Chuckles) Cadman. Too close to call. But I would really like to avoid an election. The diesel exhaust from all of those campaign buses makes me gag. And summer would be so much more restful if I didn't have to stuff my ears full of cotton batting to avoid the inevitable media reports of the inevitable speeches leading to the inevitable existential nausea...

Hey, 4th Dwarf, send me a poll question for this week. I probably won't be able to get it up until Monday. Has anyone heard from Conchie? She lost at sea somewhere?

Did ye check yer email, Chair?

As fer Conchie, we'll not hear much from her with the waters she swimming in these days.
